AISC offers a comprehensive American curriculum for students in Grades KG3 – Grade 12.  The world-class, internationally recognized, IB Program is offered to students during the last two years of high school.  AISC is organized in three divisions:  Elementary School (KG3 – Grade 5), Middle School (Grades 6-8) and High School (Grades 9-12).

A rigorous curriculum following the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), American Education Reaches Out (AERO) Social Studies Standards, and Virginia State Standards (VSOL) is offered in a conceptual-based curriculum model.  AISC students explore concepts and essential understandings, ask compelling questions and make connections.

Instruction includes cooperative learning, group work, projects, and presentations in addition to direct instruction.  Learning is experiential and encourages creativity, the development of critical thinking skills and a love of life-long learning.  At AISC assessment of student performance includes a balanced approach of projects, papers, presentations, portfolios, and performance-based assessments in addition to quizzes, tests and examinations.  A strong emphasis is placed on social responsibility, international-mindedness, and service learning at all grade levels.

An emphasis on an American and international curriculum makes it possible for students to move to a school in the United States or another international school with relative ease.  The IB program offers graduates the opportunity for acceptance to the best universities around the world.

Parents are informed about their child’s program of instruction and methods of assessment in weekly newsletters, in meetings, AISC Portal, and open house events. We believe parents are our partners.
